A Journey with Makula
At 17 years old, Lubwama Tonny is a shining testimony of what opportunity, faith and timely support can achieve in a young life. Born on 2nd October 2008, Tonny is the son of Makubuya Alex and the late Nakiyu Betty, from Nakitokolo, Namagoma, Wakiso District. His journey has been marked by hardship, resilience and, ultimately, hope.
Before joining the Makula Foundation sponsorship program in Primary Two at Sacred Heart Jinja Karoli Primary School, Tonny faced persistent challenges in accessing education. His parents are peasant farmers supporting a large extended family, and school fees were a constant struggle. As a result, Tonny was frequently sent home for fee arrears, interrupting his learning and threatening his future. At one point, the possibility of continuing with formal education seemed almost out of reach.
When Makula Foundation stepped in, everything changed.
Through Makula’s support, Tonny was given a chance at a new world, one where education was stable, hope was restored and dreams were once again possible. Since joining the program, he has had consistent access to schooling without the fear of being sent home, allowing him to focus fully on learning and personal growth.
Tonny is currently a Senior One student at St. Deo Namaliga, where he continues to grow academically and socially. He harbours a strong ambition to become a telecom engineer, inspired by a desire to understand technology and use it to improve lives. Beyond his professional dreams, Tonny has a deep compassion for others. He longs to one day help children who face the same struggles he once endured; children whose potential is hidden behind poverty and lack of opportunity.

With his bright smile, positive attitude and determination, Tonny embodies the impact of compassionate intervention rooted in faith. He stands as a reminder that when children are supported with love, consistency and belief, their futures are transformed.
