CHILD OF THE MONTH- MAY 2025: KYEYUNE ALEX

“Resilience, Gratitude, and Growth”

Age: 21 years
University Student: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and Technology at Makerere University.

This month, we celebrate the inspiring journey of Kyeyune Alex, whose story embodies resilience, gratitude, and growth.

Alex’s life changed forever when he lost his father, a policeman, to a sudden illness. Left in the care of his mother alongside five siblings, Alex witnessed firsthand the daily struggle to survive. His mother, determined to give her children a better life, sold firewood to make ends meet. Yet, despite her determination, the weight of raising six children alone was heavy.

Hope came through Immaculate Namakula Kazibwe (affectionately known as “Jjaja Maama”), one of his mother’s customers. Seeing their struggles, she extended compassion and linked Alex to the Makula Fund for Children. At just nine years old, Alex was enrolled at St. Paul Ggaba Demonstration School, and from then on, his educational journey took a new turn.

When Alex’s mother later fell ill and could no longer work, Makula became the strong foundation he needed. He never missed school due to fees or requirements, and every new term began with a clean slate—something that gave him the confidence to strive harder. Surrounded by the love of the Makula family, mentors like Dr. Hugo, and the warm guidance of Auntie Hilda, Alex not only studied but also felt a deep sense of belonging.

Through the years, Alex’s journey took him from primary school to high school and eventually to Makerere University, where he is now completing his final year in Information Systems and Technology.

Alex’s story is more than just about his education—it is about the power of kindness, the gift of opportunity, and the transformation that comes from being seen, supported, and loved. His journey is a living testimony to the vision of the late Immaculate Namakula Kazibwe and the tireless dedication of the Makula family.

Today, Alex stands as an example to many: that no matter the struggle, resilience fueled by compassion can turn hardship into hope and dreams into reality.

💌 A Message from Alex

“My story is a living example of the compassion that Immaculate Namakula Kazibwe, Dr. Hugo, and dedicated people like Auntie Hilda poured into the organization. I also want to express my gratitude to all the people working in the background, those I have not met, who contribute to the fund's work. I am forever grateful for the opportunity they gave me to pursue my dreams.”

Congratulations to Kyeyune Alex – our Child of the Month for May 2025.
