CHILD OF THE MONTH – MARCH 2025: NATUKUNDA LUCKY

A Second Chance that Changed Everything

Age: 20 years
Status: Completed Senior Six

Dream: To become a journalist and pursue a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication.

Meet Natukunda Lucky, a shining star whose name perfectly describes her journey; full of unexpected blessings and unshakable determination.

Lucky was born into a family of six children, and she is the third born. Life in Bunga, a bustling community in Kampala, Uganda, was not always easy. Sadly, at the age of  14 years, Lucky lost her father. Her family struggled financially, and she had to leave school in Senior One so that her older siblings could complete their studies.

But just when all hope seemed lost, something wonderful happened—Lucky was sponsored by Makula Fund for Children in 2019 giving her a precious second chance at education. She grabbed it with both hands, returning to school at Gaba Mixed High School where her journey of transformation began.

Lucky’s dream is to tell stories that matter; stories that uplift, inform, and empower. She wants to be a journalist, and every day, she takes one more step toward making that dream a reality. With the support of our generous partners and donors, Lucky has successfully completed Senior Six, ranking among the top in her class.

Why Mass Communication?

“From early on, I have found joy in story telling and I have always had passion of wanting to express myself. I also want to give a voice to the voiceless,” Lucky says, her eyes lighting up with purpose. “I’ve seen so many stories in my community that go untold—stories of strength, injustice, hope, and pain. I want to become the kind of journalist who can shed light on hidden truths and bring about change.”

Her dream is not fueled by fame or attention—it’s fueled by compassioncuriosity, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Throughout the school year, Lucky served as class prefect. She did so with dedication, maturity and quiet confidence. As prefect, she was the bridge betweeen students and teachers, ensuring disipline, unity and a positive learning environment.

From a young girl with little hope to a leader, with dreams of becoming a journalist and changemaker, Natukunda Lucky’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the power of opportunity.

Congratulations, Natukunda Lucky — our Child of the Month! You’ve turned challenges into chances and dreams into action.
